LDS - Leicester Tower replacement under way

The replacement of the crumbling tower at the Evington Meeting House, Leicester has finally started on site and the work is being carried out by CBM construction from Leeds. The tower found to be "crumbling" from the outside in and so, as a safety measure, was taken down earlier this year. The new tower will consist of 6 precast concrete units which are being made by Bespoke Concrete, in Newcastle Upon Tyne. These precast concrete units will be placed one on top of the other and the centre will then be filled with reinforced concrete. Once the tower has been assembled a 4m stainless steel spike will be fixed to the top, symbolising divinity and the church "reaching skywards towards the heavens"

Chorley Extension

Work has begun on the £1.8m extension to Chorley the Stake Centre for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on their main campus site in Preston. Originally built in the 1990's this campus is the main centre for the organisation in the UK. The new extension provides much needed classroom accommodation for the Stake Centre which is on two levels. Due to the sloping nature of the site the new building contains classrooms at the Ground Level of the existing building with ancillary and office accommodation at the lower ground floor level. A local company B&E Boys from Rawtenstall is the main contractor for the project which is due to be completed in March 2016.
